Odisha teenager Aditya Satpathy won his maiden all-India title by emerging boys` singles champion in the AITA-PDTA Under-16 Talent Series Tennis Tournament, which concluded at Puri Club here today. A Plus-Two second year science student of Kendriya Vidyayala No 4 (Bhubaneswar), second seed Aditya clinched the title in style, toppling top seed and Bhubaneswar city opponent Amrutjay Mohanty in the final 7-5, 6-2.
``I feel very happy for winning an AITA title for the first time. It is all the more satisfying that I did not lose a set in the four matches I played in this tournament,`` said Aditya, who aims to compete in international tournaments through National Defence Academy (NDA).
The all-Bhubaneswar girls` singles final also witnessed an upset with second seed Rutuparna Choudhury defeating top seed Kalaga Bhargavi 6-4, 6-4. This was the 10th singles and 15th overall AITA title for Rutuparna, who had claimed her first one two years ago.
Puri Club secretary Raj Kishore Patra handed over the trophies in the presence of Puri District Tennis Association (PDTA) vice-presidents Bibhu Prasad Tripathy, Arjyakanth Patnaik, secretary Sunil Kumar Mohapatra, tournament director Sumant Kumar Subudhi, Joint Secretary Harihar Guru and tournament referee Prabin Kumar Nayak.
